Uzès

Uzès is a beautiful medieval town with a maze of small streets leading onto the Place aux Herbes, with its fountain, arcades and terrace cafés. The market on Saturday is fantastic (parking can be difficult but you can take a free shuttle bus from our village).

Pont du Gard and Kayaking

The Pont du Gard is about fifteen minutes from the house. It’s a World Heritage Centre- and you’ll soon see why. The Visitor Centre does a great job explaining the history of the Roman aqueduct.

This is Roman Provence and so Nimes, Orange and Arles are fascinating places to visit- all with spectacular amphitheatres.

A great day out is kayaking on the River Gardon under the Pont du Gard and finish with a swim in the river.

Avignon

Avignon with its Palais de Papes and the Pont d’Avignon, made famous by the song, is a forty minute drive away. In July, the town is taken over by the Avignon Theatre Festival- a fantastic atmosphere and great fun just to walk through the streets.

Horse Riding

If you like horse riding, there are several stables nearby.  Part of the French National Stud is situated just outside Uzès. There are behind the scenes tours and also horse shows at certain times of the year.

Fishing

The Étang de la Capelle- a Natura 2000 protected lake is a just a few minutes’ walk from the house. You can buy a daily fishing permit for 10 euro. It’s a rich wildlife area with 150 different species identified and great for bird watching.

Walking and Cycling

There are lots of well-signposted walks from La Capelle and we have a couple of bikes with helmets at the house which you can borrow. There’s also a rock climbing cliff face in the village.
